Yes I did get around to reading the watchmen, it was excellent. I think when the GN comes out I'll buy midnight nation, because I like Image topcow for some reason and I like J. Micheal St. Although I never really got into Babylon 5.
Right now I'd have to say that my favourite ongoing monthly is Small gods. I had pretty low expectations for it, and I didn't know much about it when I bought #1, but I have to say it blew me away. Only 1 out of 3 comic stores in the city I live in carrys it, but if you have the chance BUY THIS COMIC, it's worth it.
Also, I'm getting Maus for christmas, it's confirmed.

Tempest, I have GL: Rebirth, have flicked through it but not yet read it, looks a piece of shit, actually. Any good? I will read it when I get time. I also am interested in reading JLA: Elite (that's Grant Morrison written, right?), being a huge Morrison geek. Let me know how it is.
Neil Gaiman has been mentioned, I'm about a third of the way through "Stardust" by him, it's alright, but i'm not enjoying it all that much actually. I've read some of his big stuff with Dave McKean, and that's awesome. I want to read "Good Omens", which he co-wrote with Terry Pratchett (whom I love, anyone read any of his Discworld books?).
I also read all the parts of "Wanted" by Mark Millar up until like number 5, which ends on a cliff hanger... anyone read that? It's pretty great stuff, about a... well, sort of about a world where the supervillains won, and now run things, and the "hero" is a supervillain (not some pussy who realises the error of his ways, either, he goes around raping and killing for fun and shit). I'd recommend that, though I hear the last part (or next part) isn't out until January or something, which pisses me off...

Green Lantern Rebirth has been OK so far. I'd really hate for anything to happen to Kyle now that Hal is back because Kyle is my favorite GL. The Art has been the shining point of it so far. Ethan Van sciver's pencils are breathtaking to say the least, he mixes detail and great camera angles to tell the story very well.
JL: Elite is being writen by Right-wing writer Joe Kelly. The series has been pretty entertaining so far even if it was just because of the shots that Kelly takes against Bush. Green Arrow getting involved with Raven's wife is the only event of worth that has happened so far story wise.
Stardust was a great novel and the comic adaption was pretty good too, but the novel was better. I just finish Neil Gaiman's Superman/Green Lantern:Legend of the Green Flame. That was great! Mr. Gaiman's ability to combine superheroes with fantasy and religious undertones is his long standing greatest strength.
BTW mark miller pissed me off with his horrible flash run from a few years back and has still to regain my favor.

Personally I think the highlights are FRIEND, CAN YOU SPARE SOME MONEY? and THE GREAT FLAPSBURY those are Pokey the Penguin gold, but out of about 12 new updates they're the only remarkable ones. Also, The Pokey Principle has been taken down and I haven't been able to find it anywhere. Gutted, why oh why didn't I save it?

I have no idea. Well, lots of ideas, but not sure of any of them. I am awaiting this possibly more eagerly than any other comic-conclusion, but probably because pretty much every other major "event" I have read in TPB form afterwards, and not bought as monthly issues... If I HAD to make a guess as to the culprit, I would guess... fuck, I don't know
Possibly Mrs Atom. Only because that makes about as much sense as any others. If you read it before me and post spoilers here, please spoiler tag them and put a bunch of warnings, or I will travel to America and throw shit at your house.

Why do you say that? I read comics a lot, there are a couple of titles that I pick up every month - ID Crisis, 100 Bullets, sometimes some of the Batman titles, sometimes some Superman - and I read a lot of old comics. Why is that "too many"? How much is acceptable?
It's my horrible addiction to scat pornography that should be the worry, here.

I don't read 'too many comics'. I read just enough comics for ME. Television is aweful shit, i don't care what stupid crap that paris girl is getting into or who trump fired that week. All TV is is a way to show you commericals to sell you shit YOU don't need and this 'reality' crap is the worst. Dammit, its a hobby instead of mindlessly sitting in front of the TV and I refuse to do that!
BTW, with everything that going on in the DCU right now with Identity Crisis, Rogue's War, Planetary and Green Lantern: Rebirth if you're not reading, you're stupid. This year has been one of THE most exciting year for comics in a long time. I went from reading 2 comics a month to 6
I mean, LOOK at this upcoming cover for the Flash's Rogue's War story line. How could you not want to read that?

I picked up one of the Flash issues, though haven't had a chance to read it yet (at college) but will later - I didn't know / see there was a JSA tie in, but I'll be checking that out.
I will post a full review of the Flash issue I have when I get a chance (I think I have the first part of the ID Crisis tie in) when I finish it!

Funny story, I was at the comic book store today and I was waiting in line at the register (if you must know I was buying Ocean #3 [go pick this book up now], Witchblade #81 and Trigger #1) and the guy in front of me was buying the last issue of identity crisis, guy working the register picks it up, flips it to the last page, and yells, "Oh, Batman did it!"
It's an independant comic book store run by the one guy and his wife, I know them pretty well at this point, the guy is hysterical.

ok this week I picked up Ocean 1&2 and was mighty impressed with it. They didn't have ocean 3 but that will be fixed shortly. I LOVE the premise 'There is something in the oceans of Europa'. The witty dialoge is great and leads to some really laugh out loud funny moments.
'I spit in your coffee'
'I don't care, its the best coffee I've had in weeks'
'I peed in it too'
the part where he was telling his seatmate on the shuttle how dangerous space travel was great too. warren ellis wrote it so it has to be good. If you like this, try warren ellis' Planetary. It's filled with the same great type of moments but every issue is a new mystery for the team to explore. thanks for the suggestion!

Atta boy Tempest. The hilarious coffee dialogue continues in issue three, and I've been meaning to collect more warren ellis stuff, but I don't have the funds to support a purchase like Transmetropolitain, because there's so many volumes and right now I'm trying to finish my Invisibles collection.

We are very alike, elopollo. I have JUST finished purchasing all The Invisibles - and have just started reading volume 2. And after that I will be getting all of Transmetropolitan (I have the first 2 trades now, and fucking love them).
What did you think of the end of ID Crisis?
Well done for guessing right, Tempest. I enjoyed it. The actual last issue was, I thought, a LITTLE anti-climactic, not too much action, but I don't really see that it could have been much better.
EDIT: Have you heard, Grant Morrison and Frank Quitley should be doing a run on Superman? I have a fucking hard on for this.

yeah, i think its great that we have our own private spot on the forum about this.
We can exchange opinions on our favorite media form and give each other suggestions.
i usually don't buy trade paperbacks as issues have more collectable value. the ones i buy are the ones that should have been bound together in the first place, IE watchmen, dark knight returns, the golden age, armgeddon quest, etc.

Oh shit, I'd forgotten about this thread. Been buying Ocean since as it comes out since Ellis is fucking great, also finally got the powers TPB with the monkey rape issue. Honestly, I didn't really like Identity crises, mostly because I dislike most straight DC titles (New Batgirl being the only one I read. Shut the fuck up, it's awesome.). So far Mystique has been really good, and I finally got around to reading all of Miracleman, it was all right, but it got too obscure near the end, and there wasn't an ending anyway.
Also, reading comics > trolling comic threads on the internet.

I am reading my way through Ellis' Transmetropolitan, which is like the only thing i've read of his. It = highly, HIGHLY awesome. Not read any "Powers" or anything, worth checking out?
I don't like the new Batgirl. She has usurped Robin's place in the heart of Batman.
I read Miracleman, I really enjoyed all of Alan Moore issues, then Neil Gaiman changed the pace. Not a bad thing, but I lost interest round about when Alan Moore left. His issues have an ending, if I remember (
with Miracleman killing the child, and the guy who was Miracleman "killing himself" to let only Miracleman live, and stuff - fucking awesome ending, I thought.
).

If you like ellis try and grab a copy of Global Frequency. both trades are out now, make a point to read it before the WB TV series goes on the air, that way you can brag to your friends when they tell you how awesome the show is, "I read the comic before it was a show".
Seriously it's amazing, different artistic team every issue, single issue arcs, only 2 recurring characters, it's awesome, definately worth checking out.

Definately, best comic in recent memory period. Bendis & Oeming are gods.
epd: I've read everything Ellis has ever written. GF was really good and is soon to be made into an animated series. The pilot was sent to Cartoon network who turned it down, but then NBC picked it up. Not sure when it's scheduled for airing though. Also Everything Ellis made for the wildstorm universe (authority, planetary) is fucking gold.
Tempest: thanks for the heads up, BG is probably the only new DC character that I can stomach, and maybe some of the other gotham knights crew.
Back to Garth Ennis, if you can find it, I'd really recommend reading Preacher if you can find it. Great short series.

How was Maus? I always see it in the book store but never thumbed through it. I think its the only great piece of Comic Lit i've never read.
I just finished reading Jim Lee's run on superman (204-212). I was very suprised on how deep it is. S-man develops a confidante relationship with a priest that is dying on cancer. Well written and the art is beautiful, even the gritty war scenes are detailed in way to make them so compeling to look at.
The current Superman/Batman story line is also clever. It started with a alternate present where Bats and Supes rule the earth after being raised by the Legion in the late 20th Cen, Lightning Lord, Saturn Queen and Cosmic King. The best part is that everyone guess stars in this book even Kumandi, the last boy on earth! Issue 15 has a great page of Supes strangling Wonder Woman with her own stupid lasso.
Flash, however, i cannot give a review on issue 217 as DC has delayed this issue. I think it may have something to do with Geoff Johns writting 4 books a month plus crossovers.
