How was Maus? I always see it in the book store but never thumbed through it. I think its the only great piece of Comic Lit i've never read.
I just finished reading Jim Lee's run on superman (204-212). I was very suprised on how deep it is. S-man develops a confidante relationship with a priest that is dying on cancer. Well written and the art is beautiful, even the gritty war scenes are detailed in way to make them so compeling to look at.
The current Superman/Batman story line is also clever. It started with a alternate present where Bats and Supes rule the earth after being raised by the Legion in the late 20th Cen, Lightning Lord, Saturn Queen and Cosmic King. The best part is that everyone guess stars in this book even Kumandi, the last boy on earth! Issue 15 has a great page of Supes strangling Wonder Woman with her own stupid lasso.
Flash, however, i cannot give a review on issue 217 as DC has delayed this issue. I think it may have something to do with Geoff Johns writting 4 books a month plus crossovers.

Maus is fucking good. The way it's written makes it much more effective than if they'd used humans, I think. And deep messages regarding the holocaust etc aside, it's fantastically written as well. Check it out.
I really want to read the Superman /Batman's. I have up until the Supergirl storyline, but I never got the last issue(s) of that arc or since. I will be checking it out, I like Jeph Loeb.

I saw Art Spiegelman speak at a convention once. He's a little batty. Were you laughing at the title, or do you just reflexively laugh whenever you see anything about Jews dying? And he only really won the pulitzer because  THEY  control the media right?

And I was in the sports book section becuase I was hoping they had a book about the '27 Yankees, but it was all "OMG OMG RED SOX WON THE SERIES THAT MEANS THEY ARE THE GREATEST EVER" books (hey, BloSox- that's six WS titles now. Do it twenty more times and you'll tie the Pinstipers, boys).

Maus is a completely objective work designed to portray an unbiased historical perspective that includes many sides.
Seriously, big fucking complainers. Some whiny jap could have written a book callled "Camp" or some queer native American could have published a powerfully emotional piece of literature entitled "Blankets." Of course, they aren't anti-social assholes (even when drunk,) so not many individuals of those groups have tried to rend society for petty cash or power. (whatever, casinos) Bringing us to today, east asians are well respected, but for some reason, people are constantly reminded they hate jews and blacks. Some make the effort to fit in culturally, regardless of other attributes, while others make a reverse effort and end up slamming against societal constructs.

i don't know which point you're arguing
but of course it's objective, it's the point of view of a jew who barely survived the concentration camps, and who lost his son. it's not even about the war as a whole, it's just the tail (HAHAHAHA BARON NOW THAT IS HUMOUR THAT EVERYONE CAN ENJOY) of one person's viewpoint. It doesn't try to do anything but tell one person's story, a point that is discussed throughout in the "modern day" sections.
but i think you might be arguing that anyway, i can't seem to bring myself to read your post again

In other words, i beleive Chris! is trying to say that none of the characters are actually mice or cats. From what i've thumbed through last night it appears that the mice and cat faces are masks. The characters are all people but wear these animal masks to help tell the story in allegory. Characters having Iconic or cartoon suitable faces makes it easier for the reader to project their emotions into the story because they aren't concerned that can't idenify with the character because they aren't alike. These replacement faces help suspend disbelieve and give us a way to make an emotional investment. its all very Scott McCloud.

exactly. well put. they're not literally cats and mice - nobody accuses the jews of being greedy with their cheeses - and neither is everybody wearing masks and such. it's simply a way of telling the story. now i'm only kidding when i get all het-up about "DON'T MOCK MAUS!" and "TAKE COMIC BOOKS SERIOUSLY", because i enjoy getting baron's goat. i could not give a flying fuck about anything on the internet, and laugh at most everything, including - no, ESPECIALLY - the holocaust.

A lot of Lees work has to do with his inking partner Scott Williams, don't forget. They've worked together for so long. But yeah all three of them are very talented.
One would think i have a pretty good grasp of comics at this point that I'm ready to start writing some. Even if its some shitty web comic, Just kidding Dennis :lawl:
I actually have a clownload of ideas to have put into form, like those animations we talked about.
And don't make excuses about defending comics with such furvor. People should take them more seriously. You'd think that there would be more comic book fans from a web comic forum. I guess thats the proof you need that these two demographics don't always cross. There only 3 or 4 real comic book fans here.

i get it! it's a height joke, because japanese people, being short, can never be "long"! haha good joke.
I have just finished volume 2 of The Invisibles. Feels like my fucking head has been cracked open, Grant Morrison is so insane... I only have the 12 or so issues of volume 3 to get through now, then I'm done with it, but I'm going to take a little break before I start that. There's only so much literary LSD you can take before you begin to believe all of the crazy shit that Morrison does.

Hey Chris! I have the chance to buy an almost complete starman set for $0.50 an issue. Do you, or anyone else here, believe that Starman is that good to warrant expanding my collection that much? I did read the first 5 issues in the TPB form. I wasn't overly impressed but everyone tells me it gets much more exciting later in the run. I'll pick it up if you or anyone else recommends. Its not the expense but the space. Man, I'm running out of room here! My closet is only so big.
